VISIT

DUNK ISLAND

Only 8 kilometres off the coast is the magnificent Hinchinbrook Island, one of Australia’s largest island National Parks. As few as 7000 visitors per year visit Hinchinbrook’s pristine landscapes, which covers everything from mountainous terrain and leafy rainforests, to golden beaches.

Hiking Hinchinbrook is the best way to explore island. The Thorsborne Trail is a 32-kilometre trek that takes you through the heart of Hinchinbrook Island. This multi-day hike offers a true wilderness experience, with opportunities to spot wildlife, swim in pristine creeks, and camp on secluded beaches. Just make sure to obtain the necessary permits and be prepared for rugged terrain and changing weather conditions.

Please note: The trail is often fully booked out months in advance, so plan to purchase your permit with plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

If you are short on time you can take a day trip to the island and opt for the Nina Peak Climb 321 metres high. The trail can be steep and challenging, so make sure you wear sturdy hiking shoes and take your time to enjoy the breathtaking views along the way. Keep an eye out for wildlife, including birds, butterflies, and maybe even a glimpse of a crocodile in the surrounding waters. And of course, don't forget your camera to capture the incredible scenery from the summit of Nina Peak.
